What are Soffits and Fascia?
The soffit is the underside of your roof’s overhang, commonly seen over balconies, porches, and overhanging eaves. As an imperative aspect of the building’s exterior, the soffit acts with both aesthetic and functional purposes in mind.
The fascia is the longboard that runs behind the gutter, or along with the roofline boxing in the overhang. It typically fully supports the bottom row of roof tiles and the gutter. A nice fascia also serves to make the exterior of your home look polished and complete.

Why are soffits vented?
Since soffits are part of the roof, proper installation is key. They are equally vulnerable to the elements, wind, water or ice damage. Fascia can also be vulnerable to water damage, which can result in mold or rust. A well-ventilated soffit keeps your home cooler in the summer and helps prevent ice dams from forming at the edges of your roof in the winter. In certain cases, if left untreated your attic could start to grow mold and mildew due to the moisture not being able to escape.
